Priso to be handed first start as Canada hosts Tunisia

Canada manager Jesse Marsch intends to make a few changes to his starting XI on Tuesday against Tunisia following his team’s 2-2 draw on Saturday with Iceland at Toronto’s BMO Field.

Among them, Vancouver Whitecaps centre-back Ralph Priso will make his first start in a Canada shirt. The 23-year-old Toronto native made his first senior appearance for the national side on Saturday, coming into the match in the 86th minute for Nathan Saliba.

Orlando City goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau will step in for Dayne St. Clair of Inter Miami, while Hull City’s Liam Millar, who appeared as a late substitute for Jonathan David, and Villarreal’s Tani Oluwaseyi will also be in the starting XI. Sassuolo midfielder Ismaël Koné returns after missing out on the Iceland match via a suspension.

The match will mark Canada’s final friendly before the 26-man FIFA World Cup roster must be turned in by June 1. The team will play two more friendlies in June, against Uzbekistan and Ireland, before they take to the pitch back in Toronto on June 12 to open Group B play against either Italy or Bosnia-Herzegovina. Canada will then relocate to Vancouver for its final two group-stage matches against Qatar and Switzerland.

Tuesday’s match will mark only the second between Canada and Tunisia. Tunis played host to a friendly between the two teams back in 1984 in which the hosts claimed a 2-0 victory.
