While reports of Manchester United’s deal with Atalanta for Brazil midfielder Ederson emerged at the beginning of June, the transfer has yet to be announced.

We now know why.

The Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler reports a medical taken by the 27-year-old Ederson while on international duty at the World Cup raised concerns at Old Trafford. The player is believed to be dealing a meniscus injury. Ederson appeared in two games for the Selecao at the World Cup.

Whether or not the transfer, believed to be in the neighbourhood of £40 million, goes through will be dependent on another medical. A native of Campo Grande, Ederson spent the last four seasons with La Dea after a move from Salernitana. He made 30 Serie A appearances last season.

With Casemiro leaving United after a stellar campaign, the Red Devils are looking to rebuild their midfield with a return to the Champions League on the horizon. The team is set to complete the signing of another Brazil midfielder, 22-year-old Andrey Santos from Chelsea, later on Friday.
