Jean-Philippe Mateta does not appear ready to commit his future to Crystal Palace.

BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel reports the Eagles’ contract talks with the France striker have stalled.

Mateta, 28, remains under contract through June of 2027.

A native of Sevran, Mateta originally joined Palace in January of 2021 on an initial 18-month loan from Bundesliga side Mainz. The deal became permanent the following January with a full transfer package worth €18 million.

Mateta has made 143 Premier League appearances for the Eagles across six seasons, scoring 45 goals. He has seven goals in 13 league games this season, including one from the spot in the team’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Sunday. Mateta and Palace won their first-ever FA Cup last May

A former France youth international and member of the 2024 Olympic team that won a silver medal, Mateta received his first senior cap from Les Bleus last month in a World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan. He has two goals in three appearances for the senior side.

With Mateta a good bet to feature in the France side at next summer’s World Cup, Mokbel notes that the player intends to wait until after the tournament before deciding his future.

Palace currently sits ninth in the table on 20 points. They trail Aston Villa by four points for the final Champions League spot. The Eagles return to action on Wednesday with a visit to 19th-place Burnley.
