Rodrygo’s injury-hit campaign is over and so are his World Cup dreams.
Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that the Brazil winger tore his ACL and lateral meniscus in Los Blancos’ 1-0 loss to Getafe on Monday.

The 25-year-old Sao Paulo native came on in the 55th as a substitute for Thiago Pitarch, who was making his La Liga debut. It was Rodrygo’s first appearance since Feb. 1 with the Santos youth product dealing with tendinitis in his knee. He had three shots, including one on target, in his 36 minutes of work.
Rodrygo finishes his seventh season at the Bernabeu with one league goal in 19 appearances.
Cruelly, the injury means that Rodrygo will not be part of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad headed to North America this summer for the World Cup. Rodrygo has made 37 appearances for the Seleçao and scored nine goals.
Brazil is set to place in Group C alongside Morocco, Haiti and Scotland. Its first match is set for June 13 against Morocco at the Meadowlands.
