Lisandro Martinez’s afternoon is over early.
The Argentine defender was forced to leave Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final against Spain near the end of the first half because of an apparent injury.
Martinez was attended to by teammates while lying down near the Argentina net and goaltender Emiliano Martinez called for a sub. Shortly after, Nicolas Otamendi jogged onto the pitch to replace Martinez.
The Manchester City man scored in Argentina’s Round of 32 win over Cabo Verde on July 3. He has started every game except the group-stage finale.
Spain and Argentina went into the halftime break even 0-0.
