VANCOUVER — The status of Canada captain Alphonso Davies remains unclear as the team prepares for Thursday’s FIFA World Cup game against Qatar.
The star left back has been working his way back from a hamstring injury and was not available for Canada’s first game of the tournament, a 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Davies took part in return-to-play protocols during Monday’s training session at the National Soccer Development Centre in Vancouver, but the team declined to provide an update on his status Tuesday.
The 25-year-old Bayern Munich standout was on the field with his teammates during warm-ups, running and passing the ball. The rest of the session was closed to the media.
Davies has not played since early May, when he was hurt while playing in a Champions League semifinal, and has not suited up for the national team since March 2025 due to a series of injuries.
He was replaced by 20-year-old Luc de Fougerolles in the lineup when Canada faced Bosnia in Toronto last Friday.
