The lineup is in.
Jesse Marsch’s starting XI for Canada’s FIFA World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina has been revealed ahead of kick-off. As expected, Moïse Bombito has been held out with his recovery from a broken leg in the fall still continuing. Captain Alphonso Davies (muscular) had previously been ruled out.
In net is Maxime Crepeau, who was named Canada’s No. 1 last week. In front of him is a backline of Alistair Johnston with Derek Cornelius and Luc de Fougerolles, in for Bombito, in central defence and Richie Laryea in at left-back.
Ismaël Koné, who missed a training session earlier in the week with a fever, starts in midfield with Stephen Eustáquio, who will wear the captain’s armband in Davies’ absence. Liam Millar starts on the left wing with Tajon Buchanan on the opposite side.
Up front, Tani Oluwaseyi, who is preferred to the in-form Cyle Larin, partners Jonathan David, who is Canada’s all-time goals leader with 39 goals in 77 appearances.
After Friday’s match, Canada relocates to Vancouver for the remainder of Group B play. Canada takes on Qatar on Thursday before wrapping up group play against Switzerland on June 24.
