France is headed to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The UEFA powerhouse booked its place in next summer’s tournament co-hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico on Thursday through a 4-0 thrashing of Ukraine.
Les Bleus got a brace from Kylian Mbappe goals from Michael Olise and Hugo Ekitike in the victory. Mbappe’s second goal was the 400th of his career for club and country.
The win gives France an unassailable lead atop Group D on 13 points with Ukraine and Iceland fighting for second spot on seven points.
It’s an eighth straight World Cup for the 2022 runners-up and 17th overall. France has won World Cups in 1998, at home, and in 2018 in Russia.
Didier Deschamps’ side becomes the second European nation to qualify for the tournament following England, who qualified last month.
