Marsch says Kone to get start for Canada against Tunisia Tuesday

Midfielder Ismael Kone will start for Canada in Tuesday’s friendly against Tunisia, head coach Jesse Marsch told reporters Sunday at training.

Marsch also mentioned defender Ralph Priso may get a start as Canada plays their second game of the international friendly window.

Marsch’s side drew 2-2 with Iceland Saturday at BMO Field, allowing two early goals to Orri Oskarsson but salvaged a draw in the second half on two Jonathan David penalties.

Meanwhile, Marsch said centre-back Moise Bombito’s recovery from a tibia fracture is not as far along as the club would have hoped. Canada is working on a recovery plan with Bombito’s club team Nice.

Marsch also said Canada is planning to appeal if Tajon Buchanan is suspended three matches for violent conduct after being shown a red card during the second half of Saturday’s friendly for an elbow thrown along the touchline.

If Buchanan is suspended, the ban would cover Canada’s next three friendlies and means he would not be eligible to return until Canada’s World Cup opener on June 12.

“We’re physical, we play hard, but we’re not a dirty team,” said Marsch of Buchanan’s dismissal.

“I’m not worried about developing a reputation, but certainly cards like that can change momentum in tournaments.”
