Youri Tielemans to set to join Manchester United from Aston Villa, according to multiple reports. United has activated the 29-year-old Belgium midfielder’s £35 million release clause. The Athletic’s David Ornstein notes that Villa had no intentions of selling the player.
While the deal has not been completed, Tielemans is believed to be pushing for its finalization.
A native of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Tielemans spent the past three seasons at Villa Park following a move from Leicester City, with whom he spent five seasons and won an FA Cup. He made 93 Premier League appearances for Villa, scoring five times. Tielemans played in nine games and scored twice in the team’s run to the Europa League title this past May.
Internationally, the Anderlecht academy product has been capped 90 times by the Belgium senior side after his debut in 2016. He has 15 goals, including a brace against Senegal in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Tielemans is set to be United’s second signing of the summer transfer window, having wrapped up a £50 million deal with Chelsea for Brazil midfielder Andrey Santos earlier on Monday.
