Milan opens its Serie A season on Aug. 23, but the Rossoneri might not have Christian Pulisic available for it.

The Athletic’s James Horncastle, Paul Tenorio and Henry Bushnell report the forward sustained a bone bruise and microfracture in his leg during the United States’ 4-1 loss to Belgium in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 on Monday.

Pulisic, 27, appeared to incur the injury minutes before coming off in the 59th when he mistimed a shot and kicked the leg of Red Devils midfielder Youri Tielemans.

“I just totally twisted my ankle and my knee in one play,” Pulisic said after the match to the FOX broadcast.

The Athletic notes that Pulisic was seen on crutches at the team’s hotel the following morning.

A native of Hershey, PA, Pulisic’s performance and character have come under intense scrutiny following the USMNT’s exit from the tournament.

Speaking on his Unfiltered podcast with fellow former United States international Tim Howard, Landon Donovan lambasted Pulisic on Tuesday.

“There’s reporting that he asked to get subbed out of the game,” Donovan said. “I can’t confirm that, so I don’t know if that’s true or not. But the reality is, he came out of a World Cup knockout game at home, with his leg still intact. Because … you would have had to f---ing drag me off the field. And I would have punched the doctor in the face and said, ‘You’re not taking me off the field. Put whatever you need to put in me, and I’m staying on the field.’”

A product of the Borussia Dortmund academy, Pulisic is set for his fourth season at the San Siro, following a €22 million move from Chelsea. He appeared in 30 league games in 2025-2026 and scored eight goals.
