Felix Auger-Aliassime will face seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic for a place in the semifinals on Tuesday.
It’s the third time Auger-Aliassime will face Djokovic and the first time since 2022. Djokovic won their first meeting in the quarter-finals at the 2022 Italian Open in straight sets. Auger-Aliassime won their next meeting at the 2022 Laver Cup, also in straight sets.
Auger-Aliassime is the third-seeded player in the men’s draw. He advanced to the quarterfinals following a 6-7(4), 7-6(6), 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-1 win over Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Sunday. The match lasted four hours and 26 minutes. Auger-Aliassime had seven match points before his eventual win.
The Canadian had a much easier time in his previous matches. He did not drop a set through the first three rounds of the tournament.
Auger-Aliassime has already matched his career-best performance at Wimbledon. He lost to Matteo Berrettini in four sets in the 2021 quarter-finals.
It’s Auger-Aliassime’s second consecutive quarterfinal appearance at a Grand Slam. He lost to finalist Flavio Cobolli in four sets at Roland Garros.
Auger-Aliassime is the first Canadian to reach the quarter-finals in all four Grand Slams. His best result at any Grand Slam is a semifinal appearance. He accomplished the feat at the US Open in 2021 and 2025.
He is ranked fourth in ATP rankings, which is the second-highest ever for a Canadian.
Djokovic advanced to the quarter-finals with a 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over qualifier Roman Safiullin on Sunday. It was his 106th match win at Wimbledon, surpassing Roger Federer for the most by a male player. He is second to Martina Navratilova (120) for the most match wins at the All England Club.
The match lasted three hours and 26 minutes. It was Djokovic’s longest match at Wimbledon since he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in four hours and 43 minutes in 2023 final.
Djokovic has gone to four sets in three of his four matches so far. His one straight-set victory came against Stefanos Tsitipas in the second round.
It’s Djokovic’s 17th trip to the Wimbledon quarter-finals, one fewer than Federer’s record 18. Djokovic is chasing his eighth Wimbledon title, which would tie Federer’s record. It would also make him the first player, man or woman, to win 25 grand slam titles.
Djokovic did not play in any grass-court events between Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
He has not lost a match Wimbledon to any player aside from Jannik Sinner and Alcaraz since 2017, when he retired from his quarter-final match against Thomas Berdych in the second set.
The winner of this match will face the winner of the quarter-final between defending champion Sinner and Jan-Lennard Struff.
