Canadian Félix-Auger Aliassime has withdrawn from the National Bank Open in Montreal due to a back injury he suffered while training, the tournament announced on Wednesday.
His opponent Titouan Droguet will now face Jaime Faria in the second round.
The Montreal native was the second seed and one of the tournament favourites after withdrawals from Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz.
Auger-Aliassime’s withdrawal comes one day after fellow Canadian Gabriel Diallo was forced to retire from his match against Luciano Darderi after sustaining a lower-body injury in the second set.
Denis Shapovalov also retired from his second-round matchup due to a shoulder injury.
