Gabriel Diallo’s time at Roland-Garros didn’t last long as the Canadian was forced to retire with an injury in his opening match on Sunday.

The 24-year-old native of Montreal was playing Australia’s James Duckworth in first-round action, but departed in the second set after entering the Grand Slam tournament with back problems.

Duckworth, ranked 82nd in the world, won the opening set 6-3 and was leading 4-1 in the second set when the match came to a close.

Diallo was ranked 49th coming into Roland-Garros. He made it to the second round last year.

Four other Canadians remain, including Denis Shapovalov, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Victoria Mboko and Leylah Fernandez.
