AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Spain's Tommy Robredo has withdrawn from the Heineken Open with a hip injury, throwing doubt upon his fitness for next week's Australian Open.
The world No. 17, who was fifth seed in the Auckland tournament, informed organizers of his withdrawal ahead of his second round match on Wednesday against New Zealand's Michael Venus. Robredo had a first round bye.
Asked if his injury threated his Australian Open campaign, Robredo said "a little bit. I arrived here on Friday, my intention was to play here and prepare myself for a great tournament. Two days ago I was in the gym working hard and then practicing and suddenly I felt something in my adductor."
Robredo is the fourth seed to withdraw from the tournament after John Isner, Gael Monfils and David Ferrer.
