Marina Stakusic is headed to the quarter-finals of the GDL Open AKRON, a WTA 500 event in Guadalajara.
The 20-year-old Mississauga, Ont. native upset the third seed, Jelena Ostapenko in three sets (6-4, 6-7, 62) to reach the final eight.

It marked Stakusic’s second top-50 victory and her second defeat of Ostapenko, who she bested in Guadalajara last year.
Stakusic will now take on Colombia’s Emiliana Arango.
Stakusic is currently ranked No. 128 in the world after turning pro in 2022.
She was a member of Canada’s Billie Jean King Cup-winning team in 2023 alongside Leylah Fernandez, Rebecca Marino and Genie Bouchard
