Sykes scores first points in Tempo franchise history on Friday

Published:

Tempo guard Brittney Sykes scored the first points in franchise history in Toronto’s inaugural game on Friday.

Sykes got the ball on a strong screen at the three point line and knocked down the jumper from 20 feet away to give the Tempo the historic basket.

The Tempo are playing their inaugural game against the Washington Mystics as one of two expansion franchises introduced this season. They become the first Canadian team in WNBA history in a historic night for the city and league.

Sykes is one of the established veteran stars on the Tempo squad - a former All-Star and four-time All-Defensive team selection, the 32-year-old Sykes has made stops with the Atlanta Dream, Los Angeles Sparks, Mystics and Seattle Storm over her nine-year career.

Now she picks up the historic basket for Toronto’s new franchise.
