The Tempo are playing their inaugural game against the Washington Mystics as one of two expansion franchises introduced this season. They become the first Canadian team in WNBA history in a historic night for the city and league.
Sykes is one of the established veteran stars on the Tempo squad - a former All-Star and four-time All-Defensive team selection, the 32-year-old Sykes has made stops with the Atlanta Dream, Los Angeles Sparks, Mystics and Seattle Storm over her nine-year career.
Now she picks up the historic basket for Toronto’s new franchise.
