The Toronto Tempo will be missing a pair of guards for the foreseeable future, as both Brittney Sykes and Kiki Rice will be out of the lineup with leg injuries, the team announced on Friday.
Per the team, Rice suffered a grade 3 ankle sprain on June 3, while Sykes suffered a plantar fascia injury on June 16.
The team announced that both athletes will be re-evaluated in the coming weeks and are expected to make a full recovery and return to play in 2026, but did not give a strict timeline for a potential return to action.
Sykes, 32, has been a star in her first season with Toronto, leading the team with 20.1 points per game along with 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 15 contests so far. The four-time All-Defensive team member and former All-Star was helped off the court late in the Tempo’s blowout loss on Tuesday to the Indiana Fever.
The 22-year-old Rice has averaged 12.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game across 10 games before she went down with the ankle injury earlier this month.
Rice was the first pick in the draft by the Tempo, sixth overall, and has logged 15 points or more in four of the seven games she started in a promising beginning to her WNBA career.
The Tempo (7-8) return to action on Friday against the Connecticut Sun, looking to shake a three-game losing streak that has included back-to-back blowout losses.
