Tempo select Allemand first in WNBA Expansion Draft, reveal full roster

The Toronto Tempo have selected Julie Allemand from the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA Expansion draft.

The Tempo’s entire expansion draft is as follows:

First Round:

  • Julie Allemand, G (Los Angeles Sparks)
  • Nyara Sabally, C (New York Liberty)
  • Marina Mabrey, W (Connecticut Sun)
  • Aaliyah Nye, G-F (Las Vegas Aces)
  • Lexi Held, G (Phoenix Mercury)
  • Maria Conde, F (Golden State Valkyries)

Second Round

  • Maria Kliundikova, F (Minnesota Lynx)
  • Adja Kane, C (New York Liberty)
  • Nikolina Milic, C (Connecticut Sun)
  • Kitija Laksa, G (Phoenix Mercury)
  • Kristy Wallace, G (Indiana Fever)

“Today is an important step in building the foundation of the Toronto Tempo,” Monica Wright Rogers, general manager of the Tempo, said in a release. “Our goal was to construct a roster that reflects the style of play and culture we want to establish — one that balances competitiveness with long-term flexibility, and features players who bring versatility, toughness, and winning experience. This group gives us the ability to compete from day one while continuing to build, and embraces the opportunity to help shape something new in a new country as Canada’s first WNBA team.”

The WNBA entry draft will take place on April 13, with the Tempo owning picks No. 6, 22, 26 and 36.

The Tempo and Fire will each begin play this season as the league’s two newest expansion teams. Toronto will play its first regular-season game on Friday, May 8, against the Washington Mystics.

The Portland Fire took Canadian Bridget Carleton from the Minnesota Lynx with the No. 1 pick.
