The Toronto Tempo have signed point guard Julie Allemand to a multi-year contract, it was announced Saturday morning.
The Tempo selected Allemand with their first pick in last week’s WNBA expansion draft from the Los Angeles Sparks.
She averaged 5.4 points and 5.0 assists last season in 34 games with the Sparks. She has spent time in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky in addition to the Sparks. The 29-year-old also has international experience playing for Belgium.
“Julie is a true point guard who brings poise, intelligence, and a team-first approach every time she steps onto the floor,” said Tempo general manager Monica Wright Rogers in a news release.
“She has played and led at the highest levels internationally and in the WNBA, and her experience, voice, and feel for the game are incredibly valuable as we continue to build our identity.”
“I’m excited for this opportunity and for the chance to join the Toronto Tempo,” said Allemand in the same release. “I know this is a city with a strong basketball culture, and I’m looking forward to contributing and growing with this team.”
The Allemand signing is one of several moves made by the upstart Tempo this week, who also signed guards Marina Mabrey and Brittney Sykes to multi-year deals on Friday.
