The Toronto Tempo signed guard Zaay Green to a developmental contract on Tuesday.
Green joins the Tempo following a year of playing games abroad, including stints with Lithuania’s Kibirkstis Vilnius, AEL in Cyprus, and Adelitas in Mexico.
Green, 25, was drafted by the Washington Mystics in the third round (32nd overall) of the 2025 WNBA Draft, but has yet to appear in a WNBA game in her career.
In 51 games combined across those three stops, she averaged 12.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
Green also played with four different programs in NCAA during her collegiate career in the United States, making stops with Tennessee, Texas A&M, UAPB and Alabama.
Under the WNBA’s developmental player designation, teams may carry up to two developmental players in addition to their 12-player active roster. Each developmental player is eligible to participate in a limited number of regular-season games (12) and are not eligible for postseason play. Teams are limited to 24 total developmental player game activations during the season.
The Tempo dropped their ninth consecutive game on Monday in a 107-95 loss to the Atlanta Dream. They sit at 10-22, far out of the playoff picture in a difficult inaugural WNBA season.
Injuries have played a significant role in the team’s struggles, but reinforcements may be coming soon, as TSN’s Chelsea Leite reports that star guard Brittney Sykes is approaching a return from a plantar fasciitis injury that has kept her out of the lineup since June 16.
“We can’t allow people to score 107 points on us,” Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello said after the loss to the Dream. “Defence is such a big need for us, and that’s what [Sykes] does well.”
