The BarDown hockey team has vastly improved over the years, consistently moving up divisions on their quest to be the greatest beer league team in Toronto. More recently, however, we have been challenging ourselves in a new way – THE GAUNTLET.
The Gauntlet is essentially seeing how BarDown does playing AAA hockey teams, starting with literal children (Under-10) and moving up in increments. Most recently, we took on a Under-14 team, and the skill/size jump was VERY evident.
The early talk was that the Halton Hurricanes should be able to out-work the BarDown squad. BarDown still has a size advantage at this gap, but there’s no denying these 13-year-old’s skills.
It was pretty close to start off, but in the end the exact opposite happened compared to expectations. It was the BarDown team that pulled away!
Regardless of the outcome, the Hurricanes were fantastic hockey players and even better people – a worthy opponent for anyone their own size!
Next up… U-16.
GULP.
