We’re piling up winning weeks, even without preying the winless team. Week after week I’ve been afraid of the Redblacks surprising us with their first win. Not only are they without a victory, but they’ve been chopped down by double digits in three straight games and four of their last five. Ottawa is on a short week and playing its third straight road game since losing to the Alouettes by 21 points at home in Week 9. They threatened to make that contest competitive in the second quarter, before being shutout in the second half. It’s the largest spread of the season and I’m late to the party, but I’m on Ottawa’s opponent. It just so happens to be by far the best team in the league, coming off a bye.

Ottawa Redblacks at Montreal Alouettes

The Als are a juggernaut, especially on offence. Davis Alexander is the league’s leading passer and MOP favourite. Tyson Philpot is on pace to break the CFL receiving yards record. Tyler Snead is second on the list with over 100 yards more than the best receiver on any other team. Travis Theis is third in rushing yards and leads all starting running backs with 6.4 yards per carry. They’re rested. As long as the birds didn’t ruffle their feathers too much over the break, it should turn into a blowout.

THE PICK: ALOUETTES -13.5

PLAYER PROP PARLAY: TRAVIS THEIS ANYTIME TD / 50+ RUSHING YARDS (-113)

Week 10 was the first time Theis didn’t score a touchdown in seven games. He’s had at least 10 carries and 62 yards in every game since Week 4. Ottawa is allowing the second most rushing yards and the most points per game this season. Even such a potent air assault, Theis will see his touches.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Edmonton Elks

The Bombers are coming off their biggest win of the season last week. That’s the bright side. The bad news is that they may not have beaten any team but the Redblacks. That was just the Bombers’ second win at home this season. They’re somehow 3-0 on the road, though they have yet to play in Edmonton, Saskatchewan, or Montreal. Zach Collaros being back is a boost for the offence, but I think they’re going to struggle against a legitimate Grey Cup contender.

THE PICK: ELKS -4.5

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Toronto Argonauts

The Argos take the wind out of my sails. Sometimes they can score at will and win despite turning it over five times. Last week, they led until just before the break, only to be outscored 31-3 in the second half. Tre Ford already beat the Argos in his first start for the Tabbies this season. If the defence can keep Chad Kelly in check, even force a pick or two, the Tabbies should be able to keep the score close.

THE PICK: TIGER-CATS +4.5

Saskatchewan Roughriders at BC Lions

The Lions have the momentum, looking for their fourth straight win while the Riders are injury riddled. Saskatchewan could be getting some reinforcements, but it’s too soon to tell for a Sunday night start. Trevor Harris can make up for some replacement parts to his offence, but the patchwork is piling up.

THE PICK: LIONS -1.5
