It’s been seven years since Bo Bichette made his debut for the Blue Jays, and since then, he has become one of the most impactful offensive players in all of Major League Baseball.
Earlier in the year, Bichette’s longtime teammate and friend Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made a big splash by signing a 14-year, $500 million extension to remain with Toronto.
Now it’s time for Bichette to cash in during free agency.
After opening as a -230 favourite, the Blue Jays now have the second-shortest odds on FanDuel at +125 to re-sign Bichette.
That number comes with an implied probability of 44.44 per cent.
Amid reports linking Bichette to the Philadelphia Phillies, the NL East team has emerged as the favourite in this market. Philadelphia opened as a 22-1 longshot to ink Bichette but now sits at -125 (55.56 per cent).
“I’ve said I want to be here from the beginning,” Bichette said following Game 7 of the World Series.
The shortstop had one of his best years at the plate despite missing the last month of the season with a left knee injury. He slashed .311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs and 94 runs batted in across 139 games.
Bichette returned from the knee injury for Game 1 of the World Series and hit .348 with six RBI in the seven-game set.
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are the only other teams priced shorter than 10-1 to sign Bichette.
