MLB daily home run projections and top hitter vs. pitcher matchups

Published:

We have another loaded MLB slate with 15 games on Wednesday night, and the fine people at Ballpark Pal are projecting 34.1 total home runs.

Yesterday’s projection of 33.5 came up short as we only had 27 home runs on Dinger Tuesday, but today is a new day so let’s look at some hitter vs. pitcher matchups.

Here is a look at all of the players tonight with multiple home runs against the starting pitcher they are facing.

MLB Home Run Ladder Challenge: NOW WE CLIMB

BANG!

BANG!

A MIKE BREEN DOUBLE BANG TO CELEBRATE ELLY DE LA CRUZ GOING DEEP TUESDAY NIGHT.

It took us four days but we have our first winner of the ladder challenge and now have seven days to hit a two-leg parlay.

Picking a player from the game with the highest home run projection worked in our favour last night, so let’s start with one from that game today.

Bobby Witt Jr. has two home runs in his last 10 at-bats, after failing to hit one in the first 27 games of the year.

Witt’s lack of home run production to start the season wasn’t a reflection of struggle but more one of bad luck.

The 25-year-old has a hard hit rate of 52.2 per cent this year, a number that barely trails Shohei Ohtani at 52.6 per cent and his six home runs.

Witt also currently sits 17th in EV50, a stat takes an average of the hardest 50 per cent of batted balls. Sixteenth on the list is Matt Olson and his eight home runs, 18th on the list is Ben Rice, who has 10.

For the second leg I will pair Witt Jr. with another junior, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Also entering the night with two home runs on the season, Guerrero’s underlying numbers are just as solid as Witt’s (15th in EV50) and tonight he gets a friendly matchup against Boston Red Sox start Brayan Bello.

In 30 at bats against Bello, Vladdy has two home runs with a .400 batting average.
