Canadian soccer fans waited a long time to watch their men’s national team clinch its first-ever knockout victory on the game’s biggest stage.
It was only fitting that we were all forced to wait just a little bit longer before they clinched a historic victory in historic fashion.
Stephen Eustaquio scored in the second minute of second-half stoppage time to send Canada through to the Round of 16 with a 1-0 win over South Africa.
Eustaquio’s goal set the tournament record for the latest game winner ever by a CONCACAF nation.
Canada to reach the Round of 16 was +100 at FanDuel prior to the start of the tournament.
Canada to advance was -280 ahead of Sunday’s kick-off.
As the celebration continues this morning, the focus is set to shift to what’s next for Canada, as they prepare to face the winner of tonight’s clash between Netherlands and Morocco.
Who will join Canada in the Round of 16?
Let’s dive into the updated FanDuel odds in this Morning Coffee column for Monday June 29th, 2026.
Netherlands, Morocco Meet With Winner To Play Canada In Round Of 16
The Netherlands entered the tournament as the eighth choice to lift the trophy at +1600 at FanDuel.
Despite cruising to first place in Group F with seven points, the Netherlands are up to +1800 to lift the trophy at FanDuel this morning.
The winner of tonight’s showdown will be a favourite versus Canada in the Round of 16.
However, the schedule should get much tougher after that, with the winner of Canada’s next match projected to face France or Germany in the quarterfinals.
First up, the Netherlands face a tough test against a Morocco side that is unbeaten in its last 34 matches.
Morocco opened the tournament with a hard-fought 1-1 draw versus a top five choice to lift the trophy in Brazil, then cruised to victories over Scotland and Haiti to qualify from Group C.
The Atlas Lions, which could be found as high as +7500 to lift the trophy back in February, are down to +4000.
Morocco is +132 to advance tonight.
While it’s hard to knock a Netherlands side that went undefeated in the group stage, they did look vulnerable in conceding both a 1-0 and a 2-1 lead in a 2-2 draw with Japan in their tournament opener.
Although Sweden and Tunisia were no match, both sides managed to score in their losses to Netherlands, which brings me to my FanDuel Best Bet for tonight’s match.
I’ll lock in Both Teams To Score at -134 at FanDuel.
The Netherlands scored 10 goals in three group stage matches but also conceded in all three, looking vulnerable at times against inferior opponents.
Meanwhile, Morocco produced a higher expected goals than the Netherlands in the group stage, despite four of their six goals coming in a 4-2 win over Haiti.
Morocco might take a more conservative approach in a knockout stage match against a strong attacking side, but the Netherlands star power and creativity will likely be too much for the Atlas Lions to keep a clean sheet.
Morocco will likely need to score at least one goal to have a shot to advance, and I’m banking on them stretching the Netherlands’ streak of allowing at least one goal in every match with both teams to score as the best bet.
Regardless of which opponent comes out on top, they will be the favourite versus Canada in the Round of 16.
The celebration will continue across the country this morning.
Tonight, the focus shifts to what’s next for Canada.
Have a great day, everyone!
