The 2026 Toronto Blue Jays season was meant to be a story of redemption.
Instead, a rough start has served as a harsh reminder that last year’s World Series heartbreak may be the closest this team ever gets to winning a championship.
The Blue Jays drop their sixth straight game with a 4-1 loss to the Dodgers… 😳

Is Toronto’s hopes of being a contender already slipping away? 🤔 @FanDuelCanada | #BlueJays50 pic.twitter.com/ynagwpSz7M
I talked to a couple of fans who admitted they wanted to make sure the first game they watched live this season was against the Los Angeles Dodgers this week.
Call it revenge, call it redemption, all those fans got was disappointment following a couple of ugly losses.
The Dodgers outscored the Blue Jays 18-3 in back-to-back wins to open the three-game series in Toronto.
As if the home fans needed another reminder of how good he can be, World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto held the Blue Jays to one earned run while striking out six over six innings of work in a 4-1 win on Tuesday night.

Shohei Ohtani extended his on-base streak to 42 games as LA improved to 5-0 on the road this season.
This afternoon, Ohtani will get the nod on the mound opposite Dylan Cease in a highly anticipated series finale.
Can the Blue Jays bounce back and avoid their second straight three-game series sweep?
Or will anybody with a ticket to today’s game leave disappointed?

Let’s revisit Toronto’s futures movement at FanDuel and lock in a best bet for today’s series finale in this Morning Coffee for Wednesday April 8th, 2026.
Blue Jays Considered More Likely To Miss Than Make The Playoffs at FanDuel
The Blue Jays were 16-to-1 to win the World Series at FanDuel heading into Opening Day.
12 days later, Toronto’s odds have climbed to 22-to-1.

While they weren’t among the top five choices to win it all entering this season, expectations were considerably higher than last year when they were 65-to-1.
After falling just short in Game 7 of the World Series, the Blue Jays went all-in this past offseason with the additions of Cease and rookie Kazuma Okamoto.
Many baseball fans in Toronto were banking on a strong start for a club that they believed found their identity during an epic postseason run.

Those beliefs were reinforced by a three-game series sweep against the Athletics to begin the season.
Instead, the Blue Jays have lost six straight games – their longest slide since 2024.
With a 4-7 record, Toronto is already 4.5 games back of the rival New York Yankees for first place in the American League East.
How has the slow start impacted their FanDuel futures?

As I’ve already highlighted, the Blue Jays to win the World Series has jumped from 16-to-1 to 22-to-1 at FanDuel.
More importantly, Toronto to win the AL East has more than doubled from +320 to +650.
Playing in the toughest division in baseball makes a slow start that much more relevant, especially considering the Yankees have won eight of their first 10 games.

New York’s odds to win the AL East have been cut from +170 to -150 at FanDuel.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Orioles have emerged as the second choice to win the division at +470.
Toronto’s odds to reach the World Series have climbed from 7-to-1 to 10-to-1 at FanDuel.
For the first time this season, the Blue Jays are now considered more likely to miss than make the playoffs.
#BlueJays lose, 4-1.
— Keegan Matheson (@KeeganMatheson) April 8, 2026
They have lost six in a row and have scored just 11 runs in that time.
They’re 4-7.
Toronto to make the playoffs is +124 at FanDuel.
That number suggests a 44.6 per cent implied chance.
Is it too early to doubt the Blue Jays as a playoff team?
If you think they will inevitably turn things around, you can get Toronto at +124 to make the playoffs at FanDuel.
First up, the Blue Jays will try to avoid the three-game series sweep against the Dodgers tonight.
After getting outscored a combined 18-3 in the first two games of the series, Toronto fans are hoping they can take advantage of a getaway game for LA.

Cease looked good in his first two starts against the Athletics and White Sox, but the Blue Jays failed to pick up a win in his last start in Chicago.
Meanwhile, Ohtani gave up one hit and tossed six strikeouts over six innings of shutout ball in his first start of the season – a 4-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians.
With Ohtani getting the nod for LA, Toronto will be an underdog for the third consecutive game.

The Blue Jays are +144 to win this afternoon – their longest odds to win a game so far this season.
LA is -172 to win outright and +100 to win by two or more runs.
As for a FanDuel Best Bet, I’m going to go with the Dodgers -1.5 +100.
While Cease has looked good through his first two starts for Toronto, he struggled against the Dodgers while pitching for the San Diego Padres last season.
Every batter with at least two home runs against the pitcher they face on April 8:

(LAD) Shohei Ohtani: 2 vs Cease
(PHI) Kyle Schwarber: 2 vs Mahle
(TEX) Corey Seager: 2 vs Woo
(DET) Riley Greene: 2 vs Ober
(TOR) George Springer: 2 vs Ohtani
(TB) Jake Fraley: 2 vs Rea
(NYY) Jazz… pic.twitter.com/Z2JVnL3f0n
In his first start against LA, Cease pitched seven scoreless innings in an 11-1 win.
In his next two starts against the Dodgers, he gave up nine earned runs in 8.1 innings of work as the Padres were outscored 12-3 in a pair of losses.
The Blue Jays are tied for the worst run line record in the majors at 2-9.
While I’d love to jump back on the Dodgers to win outright, their -172 price tag makes that difficult.
I’ll roll the dice on LA -1.5 at even-money.
Have a great day, everyone!
