What is CanMNT losing with Flores out?

What is CanMNT losing with Flores out?

It’s the calm before the storm at TSN headquarters.

And this storm has several different fronts.

I’ve worked in this industry for nearly two decades, and I can promise you I’ve never seen this much buzz heading into the month of June before.

We’re 10 days away from the biggest tournament of the summer kicking off on June 11th on TSN.

First up, we’ll watch a long list of international friendlies in the coming days, including an exhibition between Canada and Uzbekistan tonight in Edmonton.

Luke Wileman, Steven Caldwell, and Kevin Kilbane will deliver two episodes of Park The Bus powered by FanDuel to book end tonight’s Canada match.

We’ll also have complete wraparound coverage with the latest Race For The Roster in tonight’s early Sportscentre, post-game analysis, followed by a complete deep dive into Group B by the guys in Sportscentre on Tuesday.

As if the final countdown to June 11th wasn’t exciting enough, Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime is down to +1000 as the fifth choice to win the Roland-Garros men’s title entering a fourth-round match versus Alejandro Tabilo.

Auger-Aliassime is -184 to win that match at FanDuel.

The Stanley Cup Final begins Tuesday, the NBA Finals begin Wednesday, the CFL regular season kicks off Thursday, then Canada is back in action in another friendly versus the Republic of Ireland on Friday.

This morning, my focus is on Canada versus Uzbekistan.

We hardly had a chance to react to the official 26-man roster getting locked in on Friday when we learned on Saturday that Canada had lost Marcelo Flores after he suffered a ruptured ACL while playing for Tigres in the CONCACAF Champions Cup Final.

With Flores sidelined, who steps up for Canada?

How will the team respond tonight in Edmonton?

Let’s dive into the latest Canada odds in this Morning Coffee column for Monday June 1st, 2026.

Canada Favoured To Win International Friendly Versus Uzbekistan

As an outsider, I’ve considered Canada one of the toughest teams to predict of the 64 set to compete on the world stage this summer.

Another key injury makes it a little more difficult to bet on them to succeed.

For months, I’ve listened to discussions about Canada’s ceiling when they are performing at their absolute best.

Now the question becomes how can Canada build the rhythm, chemistry, and confidence they need to thrive against the best in the world as they continue to get hit hard by injuries to key contributors?

On paper, Canada has the talent to compete with their Group B opponents Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Qatar.

While Switzerland is the Group B favourite, Canada has been a popular pick to finish first, which has led to their odds to win Group B getting cut from +210 to +175 in recent weeks at FanDuel.

Of course, the popular narrative is that Canada will benefit from a home advantage as a host nation.

Transparently, I’m not sure that will be the case.

With great expectations and several obstacles to overcome, there is also a ton of pressure on Canada.

Tonight, Canada will deal with another public stress test in their international friendly versus Uzbekistan.

Commonwealth Stadium has a maximum capacity of 56,302, and while rain is in the forecast throughout the day, the expectation is that things will clear up in time for the first of Canada’s two send-off series matches.

Friday’s match versus the republic of Ireland will be played at the Stade Saputo in Montreal, Quebec.

While veterans like the 34-year-old Jonathan Osorio will relish the moment, they’ll also need to mentor the young stars that will be asked to help carry Canada this summer.

Like the rest of us, head coach Jesse Marsch will learn a lot more about the form of his players this week.

One thing he can’t afford is another significant injury to a key player, which could become a concern depending on the conditions at Commonwealth Stadium tonight.

Canada is -175 to win and +280 to draw at FanDuel.

Uzbekistan to pull off the upset win tonight is +460.

Cyle Larin has the shortest odds to score of any player on either team at +130, followed closely by Jonathan David and Tani Oluwaseyi at +135.

Meanwhile, Canada to have four or more shots on target in the match is -475 at FanDuel.

For perspective, Uzbekistan to have four or more shots on target is +140.

In terms of implied probability, FanDuel’s odds give Canada an 82.6 per cent chance to register 4+ shots on target compared to Uzbekistan with a 41.7 per cent chance.

We still don’t know who Canada’s starting goalkeeper will be when they face Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12th.

Dayne St. Clair and Maxime Crepeau have underwhelmed for their club teams this season.

Both goalkeepers are set to play 45 minutes tonight, with Marsch expected to name his starter after the match.

With the decision on who will start for Canada potentially in the balance, it will be interesting to see how much St. Clair and Crepeau are tested by Uzbekistan.

In 11 days, Canada will play Bosnia and Herzegovina in its Group B opener.

First up, Marsch will need to name a starting goalkeeper, a replacement for Flores, and the starting 11 that gives his team the best chance to secure three points in that crucial opening match.

Tonight’s international friendly is more than a warm-up.

It’s another opportunity to get the details right before competing on soccer’s biggest stage.

Hopefully, Canada can take an important step in the right direction tonight without losing another important piece.
