24 hours later, another marathon season kicks off with the defending champion Seattle Seahawks hosting the New England Patriots in a Super Bowl rematch.
Both teams are looking up at the Los Angeles Rams at the top of FanDuel’s Super Bowl winner market this morning.
The Rams, which signed Aaron Donald to a one-year, $20 million deal on Sunday, remain the favourite at +500.
No other team is shorter than +1000 to win it all.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers acquired running back Kaleb Johnson from the Pittsburgh Steelers to address the loss of Josh Jacobs, whose NFL future is in doubt.
The Packers now have MarShawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks, and Johnson at the running back position with 13 days to go before they kick off against the rival Minnesota Vikings.
Hopefully, a season-ending suspension is in place soon.
Week Zero of the college football season is in the books.
North Carolina opened Year 2 under Bill Belichick with a 15-10 upset win over TCU in the rain in Dublin, Ireland.
TCU scored 10 points in the first quarter, then didn’t score again on their final eight possessions.
The Tar Heels improved to 4-1 under Belichick when they record 3.0 or more sacks, which is worth noting after their win total was bumped from 4.5 to 5.5 at FanDuel.
It was great to see the six-time Super Bowl champion with a smile on his face again.
Next up, North Carolina will return to Chapel Hill to host East Tennessee State on September 12th.
While a lot can change north of the border between now and then, I can guarantee that the Ottawa Redblacks will remain winless until then.
The Redblacks fell to 0-11 with a 45-24 loss to the BC Lions on Sunday night.
Ottawa is seven losses away from becoming the first 0-18 team in CFL history, but they won’t lose this weekend with a much-needed bye on deck in Week 14.
With two weeks to regroup, where do the Redblacks go from here?
Let’s take a closer look at FanDuel’s updated odds for Ottawa to go 0-18 in this Morning Coffee for Monday August 31st, 2026.
Redblacks Odds To Go 0-18 On The Move Following Ugly Loss To Lions
10 days ago, we bet the Redblacks to go 0-18 at +1500.
At the time, I received a couple of DMs questioning whether that number was high enough for something that’s never happened before in CFL history.
For anybody still wondering about the potential value, let’s use Sunday night’s loss to BC as Exhibit A.
Ottawa jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the second quarter.
Despite the Redblacks leading by 11 points at home with a quarter of the game in the books, FanDuel made the game a pick’em live.
As I highlighted earlier in the week, Ottawa has played some competitive games this season but still ended up on the losing side.
With that +1500 number in pocket, it would be easy for me to watch the first half and throw one unit on Ottawa to win at -113 as a potential hedge if I felt inclined.
As it turned out last night, it didn’t take long for BC to respond.
The Lions stormed back with a pair of touchdowns to take the lead before the half and outscored the Redblacks by 32 points the rest of the way in a 45-24 win.
Zander Horvath registered a career-high 164 rushing yards and four touchdowns, as BC finished the game with a ridiculous 231 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, Nathan Rourke completed 17 straight passes at one point and finished 22-of-25 for 355 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
BC covered easily as a 7.5-point favourite at FanDuel.
The Lions have won five straight to improve to 6-5 – two back of the Edmonton Elks for the CFL’s best record.
With a brutal three-game stretch on deck that includes a home-and-home versus the Montreal Alouettes and a date with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Sunday’s win was that much more important for BC.
Meanwhile, the Redblacks now have two weeks to regroup and prepare for a Week 15 showdown against the Toronto Argonauts.
Unfortunately for Ottawa, there aren’t many positives to regroup around entering the bye.
The Redblacks turned the ball over four times on Sunday.
Ottawa leads the CFL in turnovers and ranks dead-last in the CFL in takeaways.
While their offence has shown flashes at times, mistakes, a lack of finish, and the inability to get stops has put even more pressure the coaching staff to find answers.
To avoid becoming the first 0-18 team in CFL history, the Redblacks will need to beat one of BC, Toronto, the Calgary Stampeders, or the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Ottawa still has a home and road game against each of the Argonauts, Stampeders, and the Tiger-Cats, along with a rematch against the Lions in BC in Week 19.
With all four teams fighting for playoff spots, it would certainly help the Redblacks if a team like Hamilton was to fall out of the race by the time they meet.
Ottawa will host the TiCats in Week 18.
The Redblacks to get their first win of the season against Toronto in Week 14 is currently +250 at FanDuel.
Ottawa to get its first win of the season against Hamilton in Week 18 is currently +340 as the second choice.
The Redblacks still have seven more chances to avoid an 0-18 season, and some of them look better than others.
However, after losing to Montreal and BC, Ottawa to go 0-18 has moved from +1500 to +1000 at FanDuel.
With seven games remaining and the opportunity to hedge against the number live in-game, I’m happy to have the Redblacks to go 0-18 at +1500 in-pocket.
Meanwhile, the Lions are getting 4.5 points as they get set to visit the Alouettes on Friday Night Football.
The Roughriders are laying 4.5 against the visiting Winnipeg Blue Bombers for Sunday’s game.
On Labour Day Monday, we’ll get the Argonauts visiting the TiCats with Toronto currently -3.5 at FanDuel in the first of a double-header.
Calgary is currently a 1.5-point favourite versus the Edmonton Elks in the first of a home-and-home.
Josh Love threw for 274 yards and a touchdown in the Stampeders’ 28-23 win over Hamilton in Week 13.
However, the Elks are coming off a bye week with a chance to extend their lead atop the CFL standings, and with Vernon Adams Jr.’s status still uncertain I’ll jump on Edmonton to win outright at -102.
