Canadians have spent decades dreaming, discussing, and debating whether they’d ever see a day like this for their national men’s soccer team.
Canada is potentially 90 minutes away from the biggest celebration in the history of its men’s soccer program.
This afternoon in Vancouver, Canada will face off against Switzerland with first place in Group B on the line.
As the excitement continues to build across the country this morning, the math is simple.
Canada would win Group B with a win or draw.
Switzerland needs a win over Canada to take top spot.
Canada’s 6-0 win over Qatar on Matchday 2 marked the first time a CONCACAF nation has scored five or more goals in a tournament match.
In fact, Canada’s six goals were twice as many as they had scored in their previous seven tournament matches combined.
It was also the first ever tournament shutout for Canada.
Coming off the largest ever win by a host nation on soccer’s biggest stage, Canadians are optimistic that their team has what it takes to clinch first place in Group B this afternoon against the pre-tournament favourite.
The FanDuel odds for today’s match reflect that.
As the final countdown to kick-off begins, Canada is the favourite to win Group B at FanDuel.
Let’s dive into the numbers in this Morning Coffee column for Wednesday, June 24th, 2026.
What Are The Odds Canada Clinches First Place In Group B?
It’s easy to forget, but Canada could be found as high as +550 to win Group B at FanDuel back in March.
At the time, Italy was expected to win the final qualification spot in the group via the UEFA playoff.
It was expected that Italy – not Bosnia and Herzegovina – would join Canada, Switzerland, and Qatar as the favourite to win Group B.
An upset in penalty kicks opened the door for Canada to shift from the third choice to the second choice to win Group B at FanDuel.
Canada to win Group B was cut from +550 to +175.
Following a draw versus Bosnia and Herzegovina in its opener, Canada remained the second choice to win Group B at +160 at FanDuel.
However, a dominant win over Qatar that featured a plus-six goal differential resulted in Canada’s emergence as the favourite to win Group B at -175.
Canada can officially clinch first place in Group B with a win or draw versus Switzerland.
While they remain a slight underdog in the match, Canada to win or draw is -180 in FanDuel’s Double Chance market.
That number represents a 64.3 per cent implied chance.
So, who will step up and be the hero for Canada today?
After netting a hat-trick versus Qatar, Jonathan David has the shortest odds to score a goal for Canada at +250.
Cyle Larin, who has scored in each of Canada’s first two matches, is +290 to score an anytime goal today.
Switzerland’s Breel Embolo, Cedric Itten, and Zeki Amdouni are the top three choices to score a goal at FanDuel this morning.
While Canadians from coast-to-coast will be cheering for Canada to win or draw at -180, my FanDuel Best Bet is both teams to score a goal at -130.
Yes, Canada can clinch first place in Group B with a scoreless draw.
However, I’m not convinced that their playing style is well-suited to sitting back and trying to hold Switzerland without a goal for 90 minutes.
The more likely scenario is that Canada relies on its quick strike ability and finds a way to send the Vancouver crowd into a fever pitch with a goal.
Switzerland has won nine of its last 15 matches.
It’s only loss during that span was a 4-3 loss to Germany.
These teams combined for 10 goals on Matchday 2.
Hopefully, they can both score at least one goal this afternoon in a match that ends with Canada earning at least a point to clinch first place in Group B.
Meanwhile, I’ll also lock in Morocco -1.5 versus Haiti as a FanDuel Best Bet at -170.
Morocco and Brazil are level on points entering Matchday 3, which means first place in Group C could come down to goal differential.
Brazil has a plus-two advantage over Morocco and faces a tougher test versus a resilient Scotland side that is still looking to qualify for the knockout stage.
I’ll bank on Morocco to win by two or more against a Haiti side that lost 3-0 to Brazil and has already been eliminated.
Have a great day, everyone!
