One of the biggest mistakes people make is projecting their own expectations onto others.
You like your morning coffee black? Fine.
It might be hard to understand how the person sitting next to you can power through a triple-triple every morning, but that’s the point.
The same trap will cost you if you bet on the NFL Draft.
The first round of the 2026 NFL Draft was one of the most unpredictable we've seen in a long time 🤯

Here are some of the biggest surprises of the night 👀#NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/Nsp6a2OdrC
When you project your personal biases onto NFL teams, you’re not analyzing the board – you’re betting on what you would do, or what you think you should tell people to do based on an opinion you ripped off from ESPN.
The first round of the 2026 NFL Draft was one of the most unpredictable that I’ve ever covered for TSN.
I spent months warning anybody interested in my opinion – and many that weren’t – about the potential volatility of the first round.
Fortunately, anybody who tailed my best bets from this column managed to lock in a profit in the first round.

As we turn the page this morning, there’s still a couple of plays available at FanDuel that I would recommend.
Let’s dive into the latest odds for Day 2 of the NFL Draft in this Morning Coffee for Friday April 24th, 2026.
Will Any Team Reach For QB Carson Beck In Second Round Of NFL Draft?
Regardless of how you drink your coffee, you probably didn’t bet against the Las Vegas Raiders selecting the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick.
Mendoza to be the No. 1 pick was -50000 at FanDuel.
It’s what happened after the Raiders landed their new franchise quarterback that caught many by surprise.
IT'S OFFICIAL ✅

Back in March, I recommended David Bailey to be the second overall pick at +170 as a best bet in this column.
The New York Jets need a pass rusher that can contribute immediately this season, and Bailey is widely considered the most pro-ready pass rusher in this year’s NFL Draft.
However, the Jets never confirmed their intentions ahead of the first round, NFL Insiders and team reporters were torn on what the team would ultimately do, and markets reacted by alternating between Bailey and Arvell Reese as the favourite to go second overall for weeks leading up to the first round on Thursday night.

Bailey opened the day as the favourite to go No. 2 overall but closed +185 🤯#NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/uR2KjRV8GW
Reese closed as FanDuel’s favourite to go second overall.
Ultimately, the Jets decided to draft Bailey with the pick.
After that, the Arizona Cardinals opted to hang on to the third overall pick and draft star running back prospect Jeremiyah Love.

Love to go 3rd overall +135 ✅#NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/hXrjL1Os1W
I bet on Love to go third overall at +1000 back in March.
The biggest surprise of the top 10 came at No. 4 overall, although it was one I wish I had considered in hindsight for some obvious reasons.
The Titans select wide receiver Carnell Tate with the No. 4 pick 😮
— TSN EDGE (@TSN_Edge) April 24, 2026
Tate to go 4th overall was +2700 🤯#NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/XKb9LEXXgG
Carnell Tate to be the fourth overall pick could be found at +2700 at FanDuel on Thursday evening.
Love and linebacker Sonny Styles were co-favourites.
As Reese slide to fourth overall, there was a lot of talk about the Tennessee Titans adding the top defensive player available at that spot in their first NFL Draft under new head coach Robert Saleh.
However, considering all the discussion around drafting Love to support second-year QB Cam Ward, it was a mistake for me to overlook another important position of need as a possibility at fourth overall.
.@SteveSmithSr89 is LOVING the Carnell Tate fit in Tennessee 🔥 pic.twitter.com/okGRmzQkz2
— NFL Network (@nflnetwork) April 24, 2026
Three of the top four choices to be the number four pick were defensive prospects.
Love was the only offensive prospect with shorter odds to go No. 4 overall than Tate at +2700.
As somebody who hedged their bet on Love to go third overall with a play on the star running back to go fourth overall, I wish I could have that one back this morning.
Meanwhile, Reese’s slide ended when he went fifth overall to the New York Giants.
The first pick of the John Harbaugh era in New York is in! 🗽

Arvell Reese was +1300 to go fifth overall to the Giants! 💪 @FanDuelCanada | #NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/ZMPGSlPLLh
Reese, who closed as the favourite to go second overall, was +1300 to be the fifth overall pick at FanDuel.
While Tate’s rise and Reese’s slide were unexpected, the biggest surprise was when the Los Angeles Rams selected Alabama QB Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick.
Exactly one week ago, I gave out Simpson at -130 to go in the first round in this column.
Simpson’s odds to go in round one soared all the way from -150 to -550 at FanDuel after this segment on NFL Live on Thursday.
“Ty Simpson will go in the first round tonight.”
— Domenic Padula (@Domenic_Padula) April 23, 2026
I’m holding you to it @PSchrags 🫡
Ty Simpson to be a 1st round pick from -130 to -550 @FanDuelCanada 👀 pic.twitter.com/5wOfFGzvaW https://t.co/X6oruTZeld
Still, despite the steam and reported ties to the Rams, Simpson to be the 13th overall pick was +4000 at FanDuel.
The Super Bowl favourite using the 13th pick on a player that won’t be expected to help them win this season is a choice that will be scrutinized for a long time.
"This is a deep second-day receiver class. They will make a move to put a weapon around Matthew Stafford."

While Simpson going so early gave me hope that there was a team that thought highly enough of Miami QB Carson Beck to make him a first-round pick, that didn’t turn out to be the case.
Beck to go in the first round was +5000 at FanDuel.
What are the odds that Beck goes in Round 2 tonight?
Carson Beck = 1st Rounder??@TomPelissero told us to be ready for anything in the #NFLDraft:#NFL @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/Hw9oxLhEqz
— Rich Eisen Show (@RichEisenShow) April 22, 2026
FanDuel has a popular draft specials market with Beck to be drafted in the second round at +150.
I’ll make Beck to go in the second round at +150 my best bet for tonight for many of the same reasons I predicted Simpson would be a first-round pick.
Mainly, it’s an issue of supply and demand.
Several NFL teams need help at quarterback.
The problem is there simply aren’t enough options available at the position.
Many NFL Insiders and draft analysts didn’t believe Simpson was worth a first-round pick, yet he went 13th overall to a team that nobody expected to take him.
There are a lot of Ty Simpson opinions floating around right now, here's what Rams HC Sean McVay had to say about the Alabama QB:@heykayadams pic.twitter.com/JqLPfvz7NO
— Up & Adams (@UpAndAdamsShow) March 30, 2026
Is there a team that is willing to reach for Beck in the second round?
On Wednesday, NFL Insider Tom Pelissero told Rich Eisen that he believed Beck could go earlier than expected and could not rule out him being a first-round pick.
This morning, I woke up to the latest NFL Mock Draft by ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller, who has Beck going to the Arizona Cardinals with the 34th overall pick.
What happens next?

I have three QBs coming off the board today. Two of them to teams with a bird mascot.https://t.co/zPXRFzdL1X
Maybe he slides past Arizona at No. 34, but there’s still several potential landing spots for a player that is widely considered the third-best QB prospect in the draft.
I’ll lock in Carson Beck to be drafted in the second round at +150 as my FanDuel Best Bet for Day 2 of the NFL Draft.
Hopefully, I can wrap up my card for the 2026 NFL Draft on a high note with one last winner.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
