Expect the unexpected on any given Sunday in the NFL.
The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles entered the fourth quarter of their Week 5 clash with the Denver Broncos with a 17-3 lead on Sunday.
At that point in time, the Broncos owned a 1-112 record all-time when they trailed by 14 points or more in the fourth quarter.
Denver to win outright live could be found as high as +1700 at FanDuel.
For perspective, none of the eight remaining MLB teams are longer than +1300 to win the World Series at FanDuel, including the Toronto Blue Jays at +340.
Denver quarterback Bo Nix went 9-of-10 for 127 yards and a touchdown in that final frame to lead the Broncos to an epic 21-17 win, handing the reigning champs their first loss of the year.
It was also the fourth largest blown fourth-quarter lead by a defending Super Bowl champion in NFL history.
Philadelphia’s loss left the Buffalo Bills as the league’s lone remaining undefeated team heading into Sunday Night Football. The drama didn’t end there.
The stage was set for the former Bills receiver Stefon Diggs to explode with 10 catches for 146 yards to help lift the AFC East rival New England Patriots to a 23-20 upset win as a 7.5-point underdog at FanDuel.
It’s the first time in NFL history that multiple teams that were 4-0 or better both lost at home on the same day.
That’s the bad news.
The good news for Eagles Nation and Bills Mafia is that Philadelphia and Buffalo still rank among FanDuel’s top Super Bowl contenders this morning.
The same can’t be said for an Arizona Cardinals team that suffered the type of meltdown that is hard to comprehend unless you watched it live. More on that in just a moment.
You see, my day started with the shock and wonder of trying to figure out what Jordan Addison did to get benched for the entire first quarter of Sunday’s NFL International Game before I finished my first coffee.
I’m just glad that, whatever he did, Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin Stefanski made sure he was available for the final three quarters in London, England.
In case you missed it, I bet Addison’s receiving yards prop at over 40.5 at FanDuel.
As a long-time NFL bettor, it was one of the most remarkable sequences I’ve ever watched unfold live.
With 54 seconds left in regulation and the Vikings trailing the Cleveland Browns by three points, it looked like that bet was doomed.
Addison was sitting at 24 receiving yards after he missed the entire first quarter as the result of a coach’s decision.
Minnesota had the football at the Cleveland 17-yard line, which meant there was a good chance the Addison under would cash if anybody else on the team gained a yard.
The Vikings ran three more plays to end the drive. Somehow, all three plays were passes to Addison, who gained 17 yards and scored the game-winning TD to cash the over 40.5 receiving yards with exactly 41.
As someone who usually finds himself on the other side of those kinds of plays, it was almost hard to believe.
Sure enough, I’d find myself on the other side of another remarkable sequence of events just a few hours later.
With a pair of bets on the Cardinals in-pocket, I watched Arizona blow an 18-point lead to the previously winless Tennessee Titans in front of their home fans.
Arizona was a popular FanDuel parlay leg and Survivor Pool pick, and while I was happy to avoid them in Survivor, that loss did cost me a couple of units.
Did I mention I started Emari Demercado in fantasy?
What a way for rookie first-overall pick Cam Ward to secure his first win in the NFL.
This morning, we’ll turn the page to another fantastic matchup on paper, as the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare to host the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
Can the Jaguars pull off the upset win in prime time?
Let’s take a closer look at the matchup and lock in one final FanDuel Best Bet for Week 5 in this Monday Oct. 6, 2025, edition of Morning Coffee.
Will Travis Hunter shine in NFL prime-time Debut?
Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars believe they are good enough to contend for a playoff spot this year.
A win over the Chiefs in their only scheduled prime-time game would go a long way towards convincing anybody outside of their building that they have what it takes.
Lawrence is 0-2 on Monday Night Football in his career.
If he’s going to pick up his first MNF win tonight, he’ll need to outduel Patrick Mahomes in a showdown that features two of the NFL’s best scoring defences.
I’m sure somebody has already asked Lawrence what he thinks about the fact that Kansas City has won eight straight head-to-head meetings.
The 3-1 start is the best of Lawrence’s career. However, that start has had a lot more to do with a strong supporting cast and talented defence than Lawrence’s performance.
Lawrence is one of seven NFL quarterbacks with a passer rating below 80 this season. Lawrence has gone 3-1, while the other six QBs with a passer rating below 80 have gone a combined 3-18.
Fortunately for Lawrence, running back Travis Etienne Jr. leads the NFL with 6.1 yards per carry this season.
Meanwhile, the Jacksonville defence leads the league with 13 takeaways and 41 points off takeaways.
An impressive defence and a strong ground game were enough to propel the Jaguars to wins over the Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, and an extremely banged up San Francisco 49ers outfit. It likely won’t be enough on its own against the Chiefs.
After back-to-back losses to the Los Angeles Chargers and the Eagles to begin the season, Kansas City has bounced back with wins over the New York Giants and the Baltimore Ravens.
The Chiefs’ schedule should get easier as the season continues, and with receiver Rashee Rice’s return pending after a six-game suspension, football fans in Kansas City are hoping this team’s best is yet to come.
As bad as things have looked at times for the offence, the Chiefs lead the NFL with just one giveaway in four games.
In last week’s win over Baltimore, Mahomes exploded for a season-high 270 passing yards and four touchdowns. It was his first game with four TD passes since 2023.
Since we know now that the Ravens defence isn’t nearly as good as most expected it to be, we might expect a small step back from the Kansas City offence tonight.
Still, the Chiefs are 4-1 against the spread in their past five games as a betting favourite.
In four regular-season games against the Jaguars, Mahomes has never failed to cover the spread.
While he might not throw four touchdown passes tonight, Kansas City ranks third in the NFL in pass rate over expectation this season and the Jacksonville defence could be beat through the air.
The Jaguars have allowed the fifth-most receiving yards per game to outside wide receivers, per Fantasy Points.
Xavier Worthy looked like an enticing option tonight, although he did pop up on the injury report as questionable with both shoulder and ankle injuries.
Worthy is expected to play, but the injury designation clouds the Kansas City wide receiver picture a little bit, but there’s one other familiar face that could benefit if he is not at full strength.
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown has been a boom-or-bust option during his time with the Chiefs, but with Worthy banged up and Rashee Rice set to return in a couple of weeks, this will be an opportunity for him to showcase his speed and skill in a prime-time game.
Brown has registered 30 or more receiving yards in four straight games to start the season, with five or more targets in every game.
If Worthy plays, it could open more space for Brown in the passing game.
If Worthy doesn’t play, Brown could still be a play at his current number with a projected uptick in targets.
I still don’t see a number for Kansas City’s rookie running back Brashard Smith anywhere, but I think Brown could be in line for 40 or more yards on three or four catches.
Jacksonville has allowed the second-most receiving targets to opposing wide receivers.
The Chiefs run game has struggled, so it will be up to Mahomes to showcase his magic in prime time once again tonight to get a big win on the road.
I’ll lock in Brown over 37.5 receiving yards as a FanDuel Best Bet for Monday Night Football.
Speaking of the prime-time spotlight, Jaguars fans have been crying for more offensive touches for the second-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft – wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter.
Hunter has registered 20 or more receiving yards in each of his first four games, but after 14 combined targets in his first two NFL games, he’s seen only seven combined targets the past two games.
The good news for Jags fans is that Hunter has the speed and ability to exploit tonight’s matchup, and Jacksonville will likely need him to step up to pull off the upset win.
Also, the Chiefs defence has allowed the most receptions to wide receivers lined up in the slot, which could open the door for a potential breakout game for Hunter.
I’ll lock in Hunter over 28.5 receiving yards as a best bet.
DP’s FanDuel Best Bets for Monday Night Football: Marquise Brown over 37.5 receiving yards, Travis Hunter over 28.5 receiving yards.
Hopefully, we could close out another successful week of betting the NFL on FanDuel with a couple of winners for Monday Night Football.
Have a great day, everyone!
