Montreal Alouettes linebacker Micah Awe has avoided a suspension for his high hit on Calgary Stampeders quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. in Week 6.
Awe, 32, was instead handed a maximum fine for the hit, the CFL’s Department of Health, Safety, and Integrity announced on Thursday.
The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of Montreal’s 37-30 victory on Saturday, with Awe making contact with Adams’ head and neck area while the quarterback attempted to slide for a first down.
The nine-year veteran had a hearing with the league on Wednesday to discuss the hit, but will face no additional supplemental discipline outside of the fine.
A native of Lagos, Nigeria, Awe led the CFL with 117 total tackles last season as a member of the BC Lions before signing with the Alouettes over the off-season.
In five games played for the Als this year, Awe has posted 10 defensive tackles and one special teams tackle.
He has recorded 623 total tackles with six sacks, five interceptions, and seven forced fumbles in 123 career games played between the BC Lions, Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa Redblacks, Stampeders, and Alouettes.
This is Awe’s league-leading 11th appearance on the fine/suspension list since 2017.
Edmonton Elks offensive lineman Jordan Murray was also fined for clipping Redblacks defensive lineman Habakkuk Baldonado, while Baldonado was subsequently fined twice for making an inappropriate gesture and headbutting Murray.
The Alouettes will visit Calgary for a rematch against the Stamps in Week 7 on Saturday. Watch it LIVE at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT on TSN5, TSN.ca, and the TSN App.
