Shawn Lemon is returning to the CFL as the veteran defensive lineman has agreed to a contract with the Toronto Argonauts, according to Farhan Lalji.
The 37-year-old, who won a Grey Cup with the Argos in 2017, played five games with the Montreal Alouettes last season, his 14th in the CFL.
Lemon missed most of the 2024 and 2025 seasons as he was serving a suspension for gambling on CFL games in 2021 while he was a member of the Calgary Stampeders, including a game he played in.
He also served an additional two-game suspension last season for violating the CFL’s drug policy.
The Argonauts are 2-4 on the season after dropping a close 24-23 contest to the rival Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday in Week 7 action.
Over 147 career games with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Edmonton Elks, Stampeders, Ottawa Redblacks, Alouettes and Argonauts, Lemon has produced 103 sacks with two interceptions and 30 forced fumbles.
Lemon also won a Grey Cup with the Stamps in 2014 as well as with the Als in 2023 in addition to his title with the Argonauts.
Lemon played with the Argos from 2017 to 2019.
A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Lemon was named a CFL All-Star in 2022 as a member of the Stampeders.
Toronto will take on the BC Lions in Vancouver on Saturday in Week 8.
