Former All-CFL offensive tackle Jarell Broxton is set to miss the rematch against his former team.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without their prized free agent acquisition for their Week 9 bout against the BC Lions, as Broxton has been ruled out with a knee injury.
The 33-year-old was listed as questionable on the team’s injury report after he was a non-participant during Monday’s practice and a limited participant during Tuesday’s session.
The 6-foot-5, 331-pound lineman was then left off the team’s official depth chart for Thursday’s matchup and moved to the one-game injured list. Broxton suffered the knee injury during the second quarter of last week’s 52-30 loss to the Calgary Stampeders and did not return.
The lineman was named to his first career All-CFL team with the Lions last season, the team he played each of his five previous CFL campaigns with.
Considered the top player available on TSN’s free agent board in the off-season, Winnipeg made Broxton the highest-paid American offensive lineman.
The native of Olney, Md., played his collegiate career at Lackawanna College before transferring to Baylor University. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens ahead of the 2015 season, but did not dress for a game in the NFL.
He’ll be replaced by Micah Vanterpool at right tackle in what will be the 27-year-old’s season debut.
