Quarterback Tre Ford took first-team reps at Hamilton Tiger-Cats practice on Tuesday ahead of their Week 12 matchup against the Toronto Argonauts, according to TSN’s Matthew Scianitti.
Harrison Frost was in pads but was not a full participant, Scianitti reports.
Frost suffered an upper-body injury during Hamilton’s Week 11 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday. Ford entered in place of Frost and threw for 151 yards with a touchdown pass. Frost threw for 112 yards with a touchdown before giving way for Ford.
Ticats head coach Scott Milanovich commended Ford for staying ready after ceding the starting job to Frost earlier this month.
“Tre worked his ass off this week,” Milanovich said after the win. “He was in there early. I never said anything. Every time Frost was in there running plays, I could hear Tre behind me saying the play, doing the read. So he was prepared when the opportunity came up, and I thought he did an amazing job.”
Ford, 28, has completed 61 of 90 passes for 650 yards and three touchdowns compared to three interceptions in 10 games so far this season. This is the Niagara Falls, Ont. native’s first season with Hamilton after spending the previous four with the Edmonton Elks.
Meanwhile, Scianitti reports special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Bob Dyce ran practice Tuesday while Milanovich was away dealing with a personal matter. There is no firm timeline for his return this week, however Scianitti reports he is expected to be back for Saturday’s game.
The Ticats enter the week third in the Eastern Division at 4-6.
