The Edmonton Elks have agreed to a two-year deal with former Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Taylor Powell, TSN’s Farhan Lalji reported on Sunday.

Powell, 27, has spent the past three seasons in Hamilton, where he’s served primarily as a backup to Bo Levi Mitchell. In 2025, Powell threw for 47 yards and did not record a rushing attempt in limited action.

He saw his most action in 2023, when Mitchell was limited to just six games - that year, Powell completed 197 of 292 passes for 2,283 yards, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

As Lalji notes, there’s a chance Powell becomes the quarterback of the future in Edmonton, after the Elks moved on from Tre Ford earlier in January.

The release of Ford left veteran Cody Fajardo as the lone QB in Edmonton. The 33-year-old is expected to start for the Elks in 2026, but the team has a chance to see if they have a longer-term answer in the form of Powell with this signing.

The Elks have not been to the postseason since securing a berth as a crossover team in the 2019 campaign. In the five seasons since, they have a combined record of 25-61.
