Toronto Argonauts head coach Mike Miller spoke to reporters after Friday’s regular-season finale 33-16 loss to the Montreal Alouettes and was not able to provide any further information on injured quarterback Chad Kelly, TSN’s Matthew Scianitti reported.
Per Scianitti, Kelly was jogging in place on the sidelines during the game and did not appear to be in any significant discomfort. However, Miller did not provide any update in one direction or another ahead of the team’s East Semifinal game next Saturday.
Kelly suffered a knee injury early in the first quarter of the Argos’ Week 20 clash against the Ottawa Redblacks on Oct. 16, when a scramble ended in a tackle by Redblacks defensive lineman Luigi Vilain. The Argos’ pivot came up hobbling before taking a knee, but was able to walk off under his own power.
Kelly was later listed as day-to-day with the ailment, per TSN’s Dave Naylor.
The 32-year-old Kelly was also a late scratch for the team’s 24-17 loss to the BC Lions in Week 18 with a hand injury. He has thrown for a career-high 5,067 yards with 33 touchdowns compared to 24 interceptions this season. Kelly also has 183 rushing yards and three rushing TDs.
Scianitti also reported that three Argonauts who could potentially start in the East Semifinal left Friday’s game with injuries - defensive backs Nicolas Toomer and Derek Slywka, and running back Sam Hicks.
More information will be available when the Argonauts return to practice on Tuesday to prepare for the CFL postseason.
