The Saskatchewan Roughriders lead the Montreal Alouettes 15-7 at halftime in the 112th Grey Cup.

It was a defensive battle in the first quarter. After an early interception by Saskatchewan’s Marcus Sayles, the Alouettes nearly returned the favour with a pick themselves.

Saskatchewan ended up punting, however, as a 69-yard boot by Jesse Mirco dribbled into the endzone to give the Riders the early 1-0 lead.

Later in the first quarter, Montreal pivot Davis Alexander hooked up with Canadian Tyson Philpot for a 37-yard gain to get into Saskatchewan territory, before former Riders quarterback Shea Patterson plunged into the endzone to give the Alouettes the 7-1 lead heading into the second quarter.

To begin the second frame, a Roughriders drive led to a one-yard sneak themselves, as Tommy Stevens dove in for a touchdown to give the Green and White an 8-7 lead.

The Roughriders got another quick stop before a long drive resulted in an A.J. Ouellette five-yard touchdown, extending Saskatchewan’s lead to 15-7 with just under three minutes remaining in the half.

Alexander and the Alouettes got close to putting up points before the break, but a second interception thrown by Alexander -- this time grabbed by Rolan Milligan Jr. -- kept the score 15-7 at halftime.
