The opening day of the 2025 Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials has arrived as eight men’s and eight women’s team will look to secure the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in February.

The action gets underway Saturday afternoon at 1pm ET/10am PT across the TSN Network, TSN.ca and the TSN App with clash between Team Rachel Homan and Team Kate Cameron.

Following round robin play, the top men and women’s seeds earn a direct berth into the best-of-three final while the second and third seeds go head-to-head in the semifinals.

Team Homan, who have won all three Grand Slams this season and the PointsBet Invitational, is the undisputed favourite at this year’s Olympic Trials as they’ve been nearly unbeatable for the past three seasons.

They’ve won back-to-back titles at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and World Women’s Curling Championship while amassing a total record of 171-19 (80-2 against Canadian teams) since the start of the 2023-24.

Despite the tremendous success, Team Homan still has one more goal to cross off their list: capturing Olympic gold.

Homan and Emma Miskew were at the Pyeongchang Olympics in 2018 and missed the playoffs after a slow start. At the Canadian Curling Trials in Regina four years ago, Team Homan finished dead last with a 2-6 record, a fact that seems remarkable given how the current generation of her team has performed in recent memory.

Homan and partner John Morris competed at the 2022 Olympics in mixed doubles, but missed the playoffs.

On the other side of the sheet, Manitoba’s Team Kate Cameron has a new look this season with former Team Kerri Einarson lead Briane Harris playing third.

The 34-year-old Cameron finished third at the 2024 Scotties in Calgary before going 4-4 last year in Thunder Bay.

Team Cameron went 1-3 at the PointsBet Invitational in Calgary and own a 4-5 record total record against Trials teams this season.

Cameron and second Taylor McDonald played for Laura Walker at the 2021 Trials in Regina, missing the playoffs with a 3-5 record. Harris and Team Einarson also missed the playoffs after failing to beat Team Krista McCarville in a tiebreaker.

In the opening men’s draw of the Canadian Curling Trials, Team Matt Dunstone will take on Team John Epping at 6pm ET/3pm PT on TSN1/5 and streaming on TSN.ca and the TSN App.

Team Dunstone has had a great season, beating Scotland’s Team Ross Whyte in the final of the Masters on the Grand Slam circuit and Team Brad Jacobs in the PointsBet Invitational final. They also made the Tour Challenge Grand Slam final and the Lake Tahoe final, losing to Scotland’s Team Bruce Mouat on both occasions.

The 30-year-old skip, known as The Sheriff, has been on the verge of curling greatness for the past few years, but hasn’t quite been able to get over the hump.

Dunstone lost the 2023 Brier final to Brad Gushue in London and last year’s national championship game to Brad Jacobs in Kelowna.

Things have continued to trend in the right direction as the two-time Canadian junior champ has levelled up considerably since replacing BJ Neufeld for power sweeper E.J. Harnden last December.

The 42-year-old Epping also enters the Trials playing some of the best curling of his career over the last calendar year.

A win at the Shorty Jenkins Classic earlier this year and three Grand Slam playoff appearances has helped Team Epping jump up to No. 6 in the world and third in Canada.

They’ve been a very busy team overall in 2025-26 with playoff appearances in all but one of their eight events. Epping posted a 3-1 record at the PointsBet Invitational, the one bonspiel they didn’t qualify for due to its difficult format.

Team Epping own an 8-3 record against Trials teams.
