WCT/CCT Recap: Tirinzoni falls to Harrison in Kemptville

It was a quieter weekend on the World Curling Tour and Champions Curling Tour with many of the top rinks taking some time off before The National Grand Slam in Oshawa, ON.

Men's Tour

CookstownCash from Cookstown, ON (Nov 5-8)

Purse: $21, 835

Switzerland's Peter De Cruz beat Brent Ross in the final 4-2. The foursome went a perfect 7-0 over the weekend for their first event win of the season. They beat Ontario's Mark Kean, 5-4, in the quarterfinals, PEI's Adam Casey, 6-2, in the semifinals and Brent Ross in the final, 4-2.

The 30-rink field featured a variety of teams including John Epping (2-3), Mark Bice (4-1) and Heath McCormick (2-2).

Original 16 WCT Bonspiel from Calgary, AB (Nov 6-8)

Purse: $15, 200

Calgary's Charley Thomas beat Thomas Scoffin of Edmonton, 6-2, in the final. The 16-rink field featured teams mostly from Alberta.

Edinburgh International from Edinburgh, Scotland (Nov 6-8)

Curling Champions Tour

Purse: $20, 056

Kyle Smith and his foursome from Perth, Scotland topped Jaap van Dorp of Netherlands in the final, 8-5. Smith beat Tom Brewster, 6-1, in the quarters and Aku Kauste, 7-4, in the semis.

Women's Tour

Colonial Square Ladies Classic from Saskatoon, SK (Nov 6-9)

Purse: $52, 000

Thunder Bay's Krista McCarville defeated Sherry Anderson of Delisle, SK 6-1 in the final. McCarville's foursome lost their first game in the round robin then proceeded to win eight straight including wins over Allison Flaxey in the quarterfinals, 5-4, Kelly Scott in the semifinals, 8-2, and Anderson in the championship game.

The 32-rink field featured teams all over Canada and a few from the United States as well as Europe. Calgary's Chelsea Carey went 1-3 and failed to make the playoff round.

Royal LePage OVCA Women's Fall Classic from Kemptville, ON (Nov 5-8)

Purse: $17, 500

Mississauga's Jacqueline Harrison edged Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland 8-6 in the final. Harrison won an event for the second straight week and third on the season. The 24-team field featured the likes of Nova Scotia's Mary-Anne Arsenault, Julie Hastings and Lauran Mann.

Coronation Business Group Ladies Classic from Maple Ridge, BC (Nov 6-9)

Purse: $8100

Diane Gushulak of New Westminster, BC beat Sarah Wark 8-3 in the final for the team's second win of the WCT season. The small 10-rink field featured teams all from BC.

CookstownCash from Cookstown, ON (Nov 5-8)

Purse: $6200

Julie Tippin of Ontario beat Sweden's Anna Hasselborg, 4-2, in the championship game. The 10-team field featured teams mostly from Ontario.
