Men's Tour

Dave Jones Mayflower Cash Spiel from Halifax, NS

Nov 17-20, 2016

Purse: $26,000

Nova Scotia champion Jamie Murphy beat Stuart Thompson in the final, 5-4. Murphy stole one point in the extra end to win the game. Skip Murphy, third Jordan Pinder, second Scott Saccary and lead Philip Crowell went 6-0 in Halifax, including wins over Michael Fournier and Chad Stevens in the semis and quarters respectively.

The 18-rink field was without defending champion Brad Gushue.

Red Deer Curling Classic from Red Deer, AB

Nov 18-21, 2016

Purse: $39,000

Team Kevin Koe was victorious in their home province of Alberta, taking the Red Deer Classic for their second event win of the season. The Brier and world champions of skip Koe, third Marc Kennedy, second Brent Laing and lead Ben Hebert defeated Kelowna's Sean Geall in the quarters, Kyle Smith of Scotland in the semis before getting the better of Edmonton's Ted Appelman in the championship game, 6-5.

The Calgary rink also won the Shorty Jenkins Classic earlier this season.

Other notable rink in the 32-team field included Brendan Bottcher (lost in semis to Appelman), Kevin brother's Jamie Koe (lost in quarters to Smith), David Murdoch (lost in quarters to Appelman) and Charley Thomas (failed to make playoffs).

DEKALB Superspiel from Morris, MB

Nov 18-21, 2016

Purse: $45,000

Mike McEwen and his Winnipeg rink won their first event of the season in Morris, MB on Monday, taking out William Lyburn, also from Winnipeg, 9-4, in the final of the DEKALB Superspiel. Skip McEwen, third B.J. Neufeld, second Matt Wozniak and lead Denni Neufeld lost only once (8-1) over the four-day event. They routed Saskatoon's Kody Hartung in the quarter-finals, 8-1, and edged rival rink Team Reid Carruthers in the semi-finals, 4-3.

The victory should move Team McEwen into the Top 10 on the WCT Money List.

Other notable names in the 32-rink field included Matt Dunstone (failed to make playoffs), Jason Gunnlaugson (lost in quarters) and Heath McCormick (failed to make playoffs).

Women's Tour

Dave Jones Mayflower Cash Spiel from Halifax, NS

Purse: $11,100

Nova Scotia champion Jill Brothers defended her title at the Dave Jones Mayflower Cashspiel in her hometown of Halifax this weekend. Skip Brothers, third Erin Carmody, second Blisse Joyce and lead Jennifer Brine went a perfect 6-0 over the four-day event, beating Halifax's Theresa Breen in the championship game, 5-4.

Team Brothers, who represented Nova Scotia at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts last season, also beat Mary Mattatall in the semi-finals, 8-3. This marks the second victory of the 2016-17 for this squad as they won the Lady Monctonian Invitational in October.

The event comprised of 15 teams, mostly from Eastern Canada.

Red Deer Curling Classic from Red Deer, AB

Purse: $29,000

Team Nadine Chyz is having a very solid 2016-17 curling season. The Alberta foursome of skip Chyz, third Heather Jensen, second Rebecca Konschuh and lead Heather Rogers lost their opening game at the Red Deer Classic, but then reeled of six consecutive wins to take event, their third of the season. Chyz topped Hannah Fleming of Scotland in the final, 8-4.

Team Chyz also won the Avonair Cash Spiel and the Crestwood Ladies Fall Classic earlier this season.

The field also featured defending Scotties champion Chelsea Carey (lost in quarters to Ursi Hegner), defending Red Deer Classic champion Kelsey Rocque (lost in semis to Fleming) as well as Saskatchewan's Stefanie Lawton (lost in quarters to Rocque).

DEKALB Superspiel from Morris, MB

Nov 18-21, 2016

Purse: $37,000

Olympic champions Team Jennifer Jones defended their title at the DEKALB Superspiel by posting a sharp 6-0 record over the four-day event. Skip Jones, third Kaitlyn Lawes, second Jill Officer and lead Dawn McEwen beat Briane Meilleur in the quarter-finals, Jamie Sinclair in the semi-finals and Michelle Englot in the final, 8-3.

This was the Winnipeg's rink first win of the season.

CTRS lead Allison Flaxey was also there, but lost in the quarters to Englot.
