The PGA Tour makes a stop in Motor City this week for the Rocket Classic as the race to the FedEx Cup Playoffs begins to heat up.
The tournament will take place at the Detroit Golf Club and serves as the second last event ahead of the FedEx Cup Playoffs which begin on Aug. 13 with the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Coverage of the Rocket Classic begins Thursday morning at 7am ET/4am PT with PGA Tour Live on TSN+.
The top 70 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings will earn entry into the St. Jude Championship, making this week’s Rocket Classic an important event for players on the fringe.
Points will also be available during next week’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
Three Canadians have already clinched spots in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, including Sudarshan Yellamaraju (No. 53 in FedEx Cup Playoffs), Corey Conners (No. 56) and Nick Taylor (No. 59).
All three will compete at the Rocket Classic in addition to a strong Canadian contingent of Taylor Pendrith (No. 82), A.J. Ewart (No. 96), Mackenzie Hughes (No. 114) and Adam Svensson (No. 177), who will look to makes strides for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Cameron Young, ranked third in the world, will be the headliner of the Rocket Classic as the 29-year-old looks for his third PGA Tour win this season after finishing second at The Open Championship earlier this month.
Russell Henley (No. 5 in the world), Chris Gotterup (No. 7), Wyndham Clark (No. 9), J.J. Spaun (No. 14), Xander Schauffele (No. 15), Si Woo Kim (No. 18) as well as Hideki Matsuyama (No. 25), Rickie Fowler (No. 41) and Jordan Spieth (No. 57) will also be in Detroit.
South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter, 21, won the 2025 Rocket Classic, marking the lone PGA Tour win of his young career. He will not play in this year’s tournament after missing the cut in three of his past four events.
