Ryder Cup Day 2 Live Blog: Europe takes commanding 11.5-4.5 lead over United States heading into final day

With 28 points in play across the three days of competition, 2023 Ryder Cup winners Europe will need 14 points to retain the title this time around, while the U.S. will have to earn 14½ to win on home soil.

Tempers Flare at Ryder Cup

After draining a putt, Bryson DeChambeau starts jawing at Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood for events earlier involving DeChambeau’s caddie attempting to walk through Rose’s line.

McIlroy fired up, Europe now leading each match

Rory McIlroy responds to the hecklers in the crowd with a birdie on the par 3 14th as he and Shane Lowry take a 1UP lead on Justin Thomas and Cameron Young.

Europe leads all four matches on course as the Americans appear to be fading on home soil.

Fitzpatrick adds more blue to scoreboard

Matt Fitzpatrick sticks his approach in tight on the par-4 ninth and cleans up for his birdie to go 1UP on Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay.

The Europeans now hold leads in three of the four matches in the afternoon session on Day 2.

Straka makes Schauffele pay for miss

After Xander Schauffele missed a, birdie putt on the par-4 seventh, Sepp Straka pours in his effort in response as the Europeans now lead a pair of matches, while the other two remained tied.

Rose heating up

Justin Rose makes no mistake with his birdie putt on the par-4 seventh to tie his match, before walking in another one-putt on eight as he and Tommy Fleetwood now go 1UP on Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau.

Americans gaining momentum

Hometown hero Cameron Young continues his strong showing at the Ryder Cup, draining a long birdie putt to cut the deficit in his match to 1DN against Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

The United States needs a strong performance in the afternoon session and Bryson DeChambeau has answered the call early, winning back-to-back holes by himself and now grabbing a 1UP lead on Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose.

Eagle lands for Lowry as Europe takes control

Shane Lowry buries a putt for eagle on the par-4 fifth to go 1UP in the first match of the session, and Sepp Straka adds a birdie of his own to go ahead in his match as Europe now leads in three of the four matches on course.

Europe takes first lead of afternoon session

After halving the first two holes in the match, Justin Rose birdies the par-3 third tp help Europe break through with a 1UP lead on Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau.

Late lineup change for Europe

Viktor Hovland, who has played in two of the first three sessions at this year’s Ryder Cup, has been scratched from Luke Donald’s lineup for the afternoon four-ball session with neck soreness.

Tyrrell Hatton has been subbed in and will play with fellow Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick against Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay in the anchor match.

All four groups have teed off and remain tied as both teams look for an early edge in the session.

First match tees off

Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Justin Thomas and Cameron Young all found the fairway off of the first tee as the final four-ball session is underway from Bethpage Black.

Afternoon pairings announced

With Europe going up 8½-3½ following another dominant morning session, American captain Keegan Bradley has put out a strong lineup for afternoon four-balls as the U.S. looks to stay alive ahead of Day 3.

Cameron Young goes out once again after winning the first two matches in his Ryder Cup debut, and paired with Justin Thomas. The pair were victorious in the format on Friday with a 6&5 win,

Heavyweights Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler are set to play together once again after previously teaming at Whistling Straits in 2021, and will look to take a full point against Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose.

California natives J.J. Spaun and Xander Schauffele will tee it up against Jon Rahm and Sepp Straka, while Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay take on Viktor Hovland and Matt Fitzpatrick in the final four-ball match of the event.

Day 2 live blog- Foursomes

European dominance continues

Viktor Hovland and Robert MacIntyre defeat Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley 1UP to close out foursomes play at Bethpage Black.

Europe takes the format, 6-2, across the first two days over the U.S., matching the most foursomes points won by a road team in Ryder Cup history.

This also marks the first time since 1979 that an away team has won each of the first three sessions at the Ryder Cup.

Europe leads 8½-3½ as the focus now shifts to afternoon four-balls.

Hovland secures half-point heading to 18

After conceding a par to the Americans, Viktor Hovland steps up for a pressure-packed putt and sinks it to match Russell Henley and Scottie Scheffler, preserving a 1UP lead heading to the last and securing at least a half-point for Europe.

Rahm, Hatton add another European victory

Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton combine to make birdie at the par-4 16th to secure a 3&2 victory over Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, as Europe now takes a 7½ - 3½ lead over the Americans.

Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland remain 1UP on Russell Henley and and Scottie Scheffler with three holes to play.

Hovland, MacIntyre take lead in fourth match

After relinquishing their lead on the 13th, Viktor Hovland and Robert MacIntyre combine to birdie the par-3 14th as they go 1UP once again in the final foursomes match of the 2025 Ryder Cup.

‘Fleetwood Mac’ stay perfect in foursomes

Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood defeat Harris English and Collin Morikawa 3&2 and move their all-time foursomes record to a perfect 3-0-0.

Americans strike first on Day 2

Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Young take the first point on Day 2 at the Ryder Cup, dispatching Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Aberg 4&2 in the opening match of the morning session.

Ryder Cup Rahm in full effect at Bethpage

After losing a 2UP lead, Jon Rah pulls a rabbit out of his hat at the par-3 eighth and chips in from a difficult lie just outside of the greenside bunker to win the hole.

Cameron Young and Bryson DeChambeau have continued their strong starts at the 2025 Ryder Cup, and now lead 1UP on Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Aberg with a par on the seventh.

Europe leading three of four matches early

Rory McIlroy’s birdie putt finds the bottom of the cup to take a 2UP lead over Harris English and Collin Morikawa, while Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton save par at the par-4 second to extend the lead in their match.

Robert MacIntyre also adds a birdie on the first, as he and Viktor Hovland go 1UP to begin their match against Russell Henley and Scottie Scheffler.

Europe answers back

Tommy Fleetwood birdies the par-3 third to bring Europe level in the second match of the day, before the dynamic duo of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton go 1UP on Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele to begin their match.

Americans off to good start

Harris English and Collin Morikawa get the United States on the board first on Saturday, carding a birdie at the first to go 1UP against Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.

Moments later, Cameron Young chips in from just off the green to put him and Bryson DeChambeau 1UP after three holes.

Off and running on Day 2

The United States sends out Bryson DeChamebeau and Cameron Young against Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Aberg to begin the action on Saturday morning.
