Pendrith, Hughes finish strong at Wyndham Championship but miss out on PGA Tour Playoffs

Published:

Canadians Taylor Pendrith and Mackenzie Hughes each went low Sunday at the Wyndham Championship in the PGA Tour’s regular-season finale but won’t finish high enough to gain entry into the FedEx Cup Playoffs next week.

Pendrith (Richmond Hill, Ont.) shot a 6-under 64 in the final round of the Wyndham Championship to put him at 7-under for the week, while Hughes (Dundas, Ont.) fired a 5-under 65 that got him to 8-under at the tournament. Both players concluded their rounds well back of leaders Michael Brennan and Beau Hossler at 16-under, who were scheduled to tee off later Sunday afternoon.

Pendrith needed to finish in a three-way tie for fourth or better while Hughes needed a win or a solo second place finish. The top 70 players on the season-long FedEx Cup points list will tee it up next week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis. The Tour’s three-event playoff schedule concludes at the Tour Championship from Aug. 27 to Aug. 30 at East Lake in Atlanta.

Canadians Sudarshan Yellamaraju (Mississauga, Ont.), Nick Taylor (Abbotsford, B.C.) and Corey Conners (Listowel, Ont.) all locked up a spot at next week’s St. Jude coming into the week. Taylor shot a 1-under 69 Sunday to close out his week at 2-under, while Conners and Yellamaraju did not play this week’s stop at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

Hughes and Pendrith weren’t the only Canadians who entered the week looking to extend their season. A.J. Ewart (Coquitlam, B.C) needed to finish at least solo third, while Adam Svensson (Surrey, B.C.) and Ben Silverman (Thornhill, Ont.) each needed to win. All three golfers missed the cut and saw their 2026 PGA Tour regular season end.
