J.J. Spaun’s ledger at the 2026 Tour Championship is over after just five holes.
The 2025 U.S. Open champion withdrew from the PGA Tour’s playoff finale at East Lake during the first round with a shoulder injury.
Spaun, 36, ended his tournament after hitting a drive on the par-5 sixth. He was 4-over at the time with two bogeys and a double over his first four holes.
A winner on Tour this year at the Valero Texas Open, Spaun came into the week in 22nd place on the season-long points list. He will now finish in 30th in the FedEx Cup standings after withdrawing.
The Los Angeles native is the 16th-ranked player in the world and occupies the 10th spot in the United States’ Presidents Cup standings.
Spaun, who represented the U.S. at the 2025 Ryder Cup, has been expected to be in consideration for one of Brandt Snedeker’s captain picks for next month’s event at Medinah Country Club, though the injury could now throw his status into question.
