Meier suspended for Switzerland’s semifinal clash vs. Norway

Switzerland will be missing forward Timo Meier when they take on Norway in the semifinal at the World Hockey Championship on Saturday.

Meier, 29, was suspended one game by the IIHF for his knee-on-knee hit against Sweden forward Oskar Sundqvist during Switzerland’s 3-1 victory in Thursday’s quarter-final.

The 6-foot-1 winger is tied for fourth in tournament scoring with three goals and 11 points in eight games.

Meier plays with the New Jersey Devils in the NHL and registered 24 goals and 44 points in 77 games this season as the Devils missed the playoffs.

This is Meier’s fifth time represented Switzerland at the World Championship, taking home silver medals in 2018 and 2025. He also represented his country at Milano Cortina 2026 in a fifth-place effort.

Switzerland finished the round-robin with a perfect 7-0 record and are looking to win their first gold medal in the nation’s history.

They are coming off back-to-back silver-medal performances in 2024 and 2025 and have made the gold-medal game five times in the tournament’s history but never won.

Canada takes on Finland in the other semifinal game which can be seen at 1:45 p.m. ET/10:45 a.m. PT on TSN4, TSN.ca, and the TSN App.
