Blue Jays activate OF Springer; place Fisher on bereavement list

Published:

The Toronto Blue Jays activated outfielder George Springer ahead of Monday’s opener in San Francisco against the Giants.

While the team did say Springer would be active, he is not listed in the starting lineup. In a corresponding move, right-hander Braydon Fisher was placed on the bereavement list.

Springer was originally put on the paternity list on July 1. While the team officially activated him from the emergency medical list Monday evening, manager John Schneider told reporters last week the move was procedural to give him some extra time away from the team, indicating Springer and his family were doing well.

Springer, 36, is slashing .221/.308/.373 with eight home runs and 21 RBI in 63 games so far this season. He was one of the best hitters in the American League the season before, hitting 32 home runs with a .959 OPS.

Fisher, 25, is in his second season with the Jays and has a 3.33 ERA in 43 appearances so far in 2026.

Toronto enters play Monday six games under .500 at 42-48 and sits three games back of the final AL wild-card spot.
