Blue Jays bring back Woods Richardson, acquiring RHP pitcher from Twins

Published:

The Toronto Blue Jays added a familiar arm to their pitching staff on Wednesday, acquiring Simeon Woods Richardson from the Minnesota Twins, according to Mitch Bannon of The Athletic.

Toronto will send cash considerations to Minnesota as part of the deal.

The right-handed starter, who was designated for assignment by the Twins earlier this week, played in the Blue Jays’ minor league system from 2019 to 2021 before he was traded to Minnesota, alongside utility man Austin Martin, as part of the deal that saw pitcher Jose Berrios join Toronto.

After posting a 7-4 record with a 4.04 ERA over 22 starts in 2025, the 25-year-old has struggled in 2026, posting an 0-7 record with a 7.74 ERA.

The native of Sugar Land, Texas has a career 12-17 record alongside a 4.76 ERA over 65 games, including 61 starts, in his career.

Woods Richardson joins a Blue Jays’ pitching staff dealing with multiple injuries, including ace Dylan Cease, future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer and two-time All-Star Shane Bieber, who hasn’t pitched this season.
