The Toronto Blue Jays are bringing up infielder Luis Urias and sending outfielder Yohendrick Pinango down to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move, it was announced Monday afternoon.
Urias was acquired in a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend in exchange for cash considerations. He will be active for Monday’s series-opener against the Houston Astros.
The 29-year-old has spent parts of eight seasons in MLB, playing stints for the San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners and Athletics. He spent last season with the A’s and appeared in 96 games, slashing .230/.315/.338 with eight home runs and 25 RBI.
Urias has not played in the big leagues yet this season but is hitting .347 with an .893 OPS in 32 minor-league games this season. He joined the D-Backs organization in March of this year.
Pinango, 24, has been impressive at the plate in 43 games so far this season as a rookie, slashing .283/.331/.433 with four home runs and 18 RBI.
However, he has struggled at times defensively in the outfield and is -2.2 Fielding Runs Above Average according to Fangraphs.
Toronto sits one game under the .500 mark at 38-39 and will look to even up their record Monday night at Rogers Centre with Dylan Cease on the mound.
